BROOKINGS The South Dakota State womens basketball team improved to 2-0 on the season on Friday night as the Jackrabbits beat Rice 79-65 in their home opener.
Each team scored 16 points in the first quarter. The Jacks then outscored the Owls 22-18 in the second quarter and took a 38-34 lead into halftime. SDSU extended its lead to 57-50 heading into the fourth and then outscored Rice 22-15 in the final quarter to pull away.
SDSU shot 42.4% from the field and was 4-of-16 from three. The Jacks were 25-of-34 at the free throw line.
Brooklyn Meyer scored five points in the first half but finished with 22 points and 11 rebounds. Katie Vasecka had 14 points and four rebounds. Maggie Hartwig had four points and 14 rebounds. Mahli Abdouch had 12 points off of the bench and Madison Mathiowetz had nine points.
SDSU will host Murray State on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
