Special delivery: Sioux Valley student Chance Johnson brings news to school

VOLGA A third-grade student at Sioux Valley Elementary is helping keep teachers and staff at the school informed on local events by serving as a delivery person.

Chance Johnson, who recently celebrated his ninth birthday, delivers The Brookings Register to the educators around the school. He began his delivery route this school year with the encouragement of his teachers.

It takes him about 20 to 30 minutes to complete his delivery route in the school, one his teachers steered him into.

We thought it would be a good experience for him, Heidi Barclay, teacher assistant at Sioux Valley Elementary, said. “Its good to get out of the room and get walking around and it gives him a good break from his normal work.”

Chance said he enjoys delivering the news to the Sioux Valley staff, adding that Sioux Valleys teachers appreciate his efforts.

All the teachers say Thank you, he said.

Chance is the son of Brianna and James Johnson and has two sisters, Emma and Dani. He is in Rebekah Kilburns third-grade class at Sioux Valley. Johnson said when he completes his education he wants to work on cars.

Outside of class he enjoys playing gaga ball and, at home, he enjoys playing X-Box, especially Minecraft.
