Sioux Valley wins final two matches

The Sioux Valley volleyball team closed out the regular season with a pair of wins early in the week. The Cossacks swept Garretson on Monday and then beat Elkton-Lake Benton in four sets on Tuesday.

With the two wins, Sioux Valley finished the season with a record of 16-11. The Cossacks will be the No. 3 seed in the Region 2A Playoffs and will host No. 6 seeded Florence/Henry this upcoming Tuesday at 7 p.m.

Monday

Sioux Valley 3, Garretson 0

Sioux Valley won the first set 25-15. Garretson put up more of a fight in sets two and three but the Cossacks came away with 25-19 and 25-18 victories to win the match.

The Cossacks had 29 kills and 70 digs as a team. Lace Langland had nine kills to lead Sioux Valley. Sienna Weiss had five kills and eight digs. McKinley Schwab had 11 assists and Cameron Uecker had eight assists. Machaela Gerasch had seven assists and six digs. Talya Vincent had 15 digs and Caitlin Russell had 14 digs. Liberty Trygstad had five digs and Emma Gorvin had four kills.

Tuesday

Sioux Valley 3, Elkton-Lake Benton 1

The Cossacks won set one 25-16 and the Elks responded with a 25-22 win in set two. Sioux Valley then won the next two sets by scores of 25-14 and 25-20.

Gorvin and Weiss each had nine digs. Schwab had 24 assists and 12 digs. Vincent had 39 digs and Trygstad had 16 digs. Gerasch had 16 assists and two service aces. Licht had three aces.

Charlie Thooft had 13 kills. Sydney DeVries had eight kills and Jocelyn Prosch had seven kills. Quinn Slegers had 21 digs and Ashya Flores had 16 digs. Payton Kuehl had 20 assists.

Elkton-Lake Benton finished the regular season with a record of 8-19 and will be the No. 5 seed in the Region 2A Playoffs. The Elks will play at No. 4 seeded Great Plains Lutheran on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
