AURORA One man was seriously injured in a two-vehicle crash 1 mile south of Aurora on Oct. 23.
The names of the people involved in the crash, which occurred at 10:30 a.m., have not been released, according to the South Dakota Highway Patrol.
Preliminary crash information indicates the driver of a 2018 Buick Envision, a 21-year-old man from Lake Preston, was traveling westbound on state Highway 324 near mile marker 361. As his vehicle approached the intersection with 476th Avenue, it collided with the left rear of a 2000 International semi and trailer being driven by a 74-year-old man from Flandreau that was making a right-hand turn. Following the impact, the Buick traveled across the roadway and rolled into the south ditch, coming to rest on its roof.
The driver of the Buick sustained serious, non-life-threatening injuries and wasnt wearing a seat belt, according to information from the South Dakota Department of Public Safety. The driver of the truck was not injured, and was wearing a seat belt.
The Buicks driver was taken by Brookings Ambulance to Brookings Health System for treatment, and was then transferred to Sanford Health in Sioux Falls, a state DPS spokesman told the Brookings Register on Monday.
The Highway Patrol is investigating the crash. The other responding agencies were the Brookings County Sheriffs Office and the Aurora Fire Department. All information released so far is only preliminary.
