Gary Dean Christie, 68, of Brookings, SD passed away Wednesday, Sept. 3, 2025.
Memorial services have been set for 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 25, at First United Methodist Church, Brookings, SD. Memorial visitation will be held Friday, Oct. 24 from 5 to 7 p.m.at Rudes Funeral Home, Brookings, SDwith a Masonic Service at 6:30 pm. The family requests that memorials be sent to First United Methodist Church, Brookings.
Gary was born January 20, 1957, in Brookings, SD to Dean and Helen (Langendorfer) Christie. He died Wednesday, September 3, 2025.
Gary attended Brookings country schools and graduated from Brookings High School in 1976. He continued his education at SDSU and received a Bachelors in Printing. A highlight in his college years was a trip to Germany with the Printing Club.
Gary enjoyed helping out with the family farm when he was growing up. He was also active in 4-H and DeMolay. In his adult years he was involved in the Masons and Shriners and enjoyed driving the Hobo Day parade entries for each organization.
Gary enjoyed spending time with his niece and nephews and lovingly called them snicklefritz as well as his great nieces and nephews. Even though he had some physical struggles in life he always had a positive attitude. He always had a smile for his family and friends and enjoyed catching up and sharing a good laugh.
Survivors include his sister Joy (Gary) Griesse of Harrisburg SD andhis brother Scott (Julie) of Harrisburg SD. Nephews Trent Griesse, Nathan (Becca) Griesse, Derek (Libby) Griesse, Tyson (Teri) Griesse, niece Marisa (David) Young, and nephew Ryan (Nicole) Christie. Great nephews and nieces Kiley, Sean, Sophia, Jordan, Brodie, Cole, Hudson, Beau, Leo, Hank, Wyatt, Jase, James and Charlie.
He was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents CB and Alta Christie and Wayne and Minna Langendorfer.
