Cossacks finish in 12th at state tournament

VERMILLION The Sioux Valley boys golf team came in 12th place in the Class A State Tournament at The Bluffs Golf Course in Vermillion.

The Cossacks 142-over par as a team. Dakota Valley won the tournament after shooting 23-over par. Vermillion came in second (+27) and St. Thomas More came in third (+58). Aberdeen Roncalli came in fourth (+66) and Sioux Falls Christian finished in fifth (+66).

Damon Uecker led the way for the Cossacks as he came in 17th (157). Trentyn Schmit tied for 45th (173) and Landon Hanssen tied for 69th (187). McCade Nelson came in 90th (203) and Nate Larson tied for 96th (208).

St. Thomas Mores Hayden Heig won the individual tournament after shooting a six-under par 138. Dakota Valleys Matt DeBeer came in second (145) and Vermillions Jack Johnson finished in third (148). Vermillions Cooper Girard, Cantons Carson Steffensen and Parkstons Landon Weber tied for fourth (150).
