The Brookings soccer teams saw their seasons come to a close on Tuesday night as each team lost in the first round of the Class AA State Tournament.
The girls were the No. 12 seed and fell to No. 5 seeded Sioux Falls Roosevelt 4-1. The boys were the No. 14 seed and lost to No. 3 seeded Aberdeen Central 3-0.
Boys
Aberdeen Central 3, Brookings 0
The Golden Eagles went up 1-0 four and a half minutes into the game and didnt look back.
Aberdeen extended the lead to 2-0 with just under 13 minutes remaining in the first half. The Bobcats kept the Golden Eagles off of the scoreboard for most of the second half but they found the back of the net with five and a half minutes to go and that made the final 3-0.
Brookings had eight shots and four of them were on goal. Forrest Giard led the Bobcats with three shots and two of them were on goal. Bachman had two shots on goal. Connor Shelden, Caylon Peters and Kasen Fixsen each had one shot.
Sawyer Steen was the goalkeeper for Brookings and he had 12 saves.
The Bobcat boys finished with a record of 4-8-3.
Girls
Sioux Falls Roosevelt 4, Brookings 1
All five of the goals in the game came in the second half.
The Rough Riders broke the 0-0 tie a minute and a half into the second half as Payton Pearson found the back of the net. 42 seconds later Pearson scored again and doubled their lead. Roosevelt then made it 3-0 with 26:31 left in the match as Lily Tadlock scored. 11 minutes after that Kinsley Pesicka pushed the lead to 4-0.
Brookings lone goal of the match came with 4:45 to play as Rylee Briggs scored.
Briggs’ only shot of the match was her goal. Lexi Erp also had a shot on goal. Aubrey Knutzen had two shots and Grace Romsa and Shae Lefers each had one shot.
Brookings finished with a record of 4-7-4.
