Jackrabbits, Fighting Hawks play to a draw at Fishback

BROOKINGS South Dakota State and North Dakota played to a 2-2 draw on Thursday night at Fishback Soccer Park.

The Fighting Hawks led 1-0 at halftime and the Jackrabbits then tied things up midway through the second half. UND would take the lead with just over eight minutes to play and the Jacks tied things up again just 41 seconds later.

Jessica Machovec was the one who gave UND a 1-0 lead in the 40th minute. She sent it towards the net from outside of the box and it was just out of the reach of goalkeeper Mallorie Benhart. She was assisted by Yui Fuijii.

SDSUs first equalizer came in the 73rd minute. Jenna Maloy passed it to Hailee Christensen at the top of the box and she passed it backwards to Lauren Eckerle who fired it towards the net and it went past UNDs to make it 1-1.

Charlie Basinet then regained the lead for the Fighting Hawks in the 81st minute. She was assisted by Fuijii and Lillian Bashaw. 41 seconds later UND had an own goal and that evened things up and made it a 2-2 draw as neither team scored the rest of the way.

SDSU had 14 shots and eight of them were on goal and UND had 12 shots and nine of them were on goal. The Jacks had eight corner kicks and six fouls and the Fighting Hawks had three corners and 14 fouls.

Maloy had three shots that were all on goal. Emma Brezenski had five shots and two were on goal. Eckerle had three shots and one was on goal. Zoe Wittkop had one shot that was on goal and Jacinto Deizha Lyn had two shots and one was on goal.

SDSU moved to 7-1-4 on the season. The Jacks will host North Dakota State on Sunday at 1 p.m.
