Cossacks sweep Fliers in Volga

VOLGA Sioux Valley made quick work of Flandreau on Thursday night at the Cossack Center as the Cossacks swept the Fliers in straight sets.

The Fliers hung around with the Cossacks in the first set as they led 13-12. However, Sioux Valley then went on a 13-0 run to end the set and went up 1-0.

The Cossacks jumped out to a 7-3 lead in set two. Flandreau battled back to tie things up at 10-10, but Sioux Valley went on another big run and won the set 25-16.

Sioux Valley dominated the third set from the start as it led 10-3. The Cossacks then outscored the Cossacks 15-4 the rest of the way and won the set 25-7 and won the match.

The Cossacks had 61 kills and 66 digs as a team. Maci Licht had 11 kills to lead Sioux Valley. Emma Gorvin had five kills and 21 digs. Abygale Degen had eight kills and Lacey Langland had seven kills. Talya Vincent had 18 digs and Caitlin Russell had eight digs. Macheala Gerasch had 18 assists and McKinley Schwab had 13 assists.

Sioux Valley improved to 11-5 and plays at Deubrook Area on Saturday at 5 p.m.
