SIOUX FALLS The Brookings soccer teams split a doubleheader with Sioux Falls Washington on Tuesday night. The Bobcat girls beat the Warriors 2-1 and the boys lost 4-2.
This was the final game of the regular season for each team. The Class AA State Tournament is up next for the Bobcats. Seeds will be finalized on Friday and as of right now the girls are the No. 12 seed and will head to Sioux Falls Roosevelt on Oct. 7. The boys right now would be No. 14 seed and play at Sioux Falls Jefferson.
Girls
Brookings 2, Sioux Falls Washington 1
Washington scored first and the Bobcats rallied with two goals to win the game. All of the goals came in the first half.
The Warriors scored with 27 minutes left in the first half. 10 minutes later the Bobcats tied the game when Isabel Eide found the back of the net. She was assisted by Rylee Briggs. Briggs then scored on her own with just under five minutes left in the half and she was unassisted.
Briggs and Eides only shots were their goals. Shae Lefers had two shots and one was on goal. Sophia Schmit, Paisley Te Velde, Lexi Erp and Aubrey Knutzen all had one shot. Grace Romsa and Aubrey Giard each had two shots.
The Bobcats improved to 4-6-4 on the year.
Boys
Sioux Falls Washington 4, Brookings 2
Brookings led 2-1 at halftime and then the Warriors outscored the Bobcats 3-0 in the final 40 minutes.
Forrest Giard had a goal that was assisted by Kyler Soost. Giard then assisted Connor Sheldens goal.
Brookings had eight shots and four of them were on goal. Giard had five shots and three of them were on goal. Sheldens only shot was his goal. Soost and Keller Peterson each had one shot.
Brookings is now 4-7-3 on the season.
