High-powered offense leads Jackrabbits to win over Tommies

BROOKINGS South Dakota State scored early and often on Thursday night at Fishback Soccer Park as the Jackrabbits beat St. Thomas 6-0 in their Summit League opener.

SDSU scored four goals in the first 34 minutes and then added two more in the second half. Six different Jackrabbits scored on Thursday night.

Hailee Christensen scored two minutes and 19 seconds into the game as she took a pass from Zoe Wittkop and put it in the bottom left part of the goal. Jenna Maloy was also credited with an assist.

In the 25th minute Mia Bosch scored off of a pass from Lauren Eckerle. SDSU then scored two goals in a span of just under two minutes as MaKynlie Cade scored and Emma Brezenski found the back of the net as well. Bosch assisted Cade and Brezenski was assisted by Eckerle.

Ellie Gusman got in on the scoring in the second half as she took a pass from Lauren Walter and then kicked it past the goalkeeper on the right side in the 59th minute. The final goal of the match came from Alexa Ruppert in the 87th minute. She was assisted by Jacinto Lyn Deizha.

SDSU had 27 shots and 12 of them were on goal. Bosch led the way with six shots and two of them were on goal. Brezenski had four shots and two of them were on goal and both of Cades shots were on goal. Walter had four shots and one of them was on goal and Eckerle, Christensen and Adrianne Agbayni each had two shots and one was on goal. Gusman, Ruppert and Shelby Hopeau each had a shot that was on goal. Lyn Deizha and Maloy each had one shot that was not on goal.

Mallorie Benhart was in net for the first 63:44 of the match and she made three saves. Stephanie Leckwold played the rest of the game as goalkeeper and she made one save. UST had seven total shots.

SDSU improved to 7-1-3 and will play North Dakota in Brookings on Oct. 2 at 7 p.m.
