‘I Hear Music in the Air’ recital set for Sept. 29 in Brookings

BROOKINGS Mezzo-soprano Emily Wood Toronto will present a faculty recital at 7:30 p.m. Sept. 29 in the Oscar Larson Performing Arts Centers Founders Recital Hall on the South Dakota State University campus.

Pianist Carson Covey, an alumnus of South Daktoa State, will accompany the program.

The recital is titled I Hear Music in the Air. The program will feature the Zigeunerlieder of Czech composer Antonn Dvok and the Chants populaires of French composer Maurice Ravel.

The program will also include four African American spirituals arranged by 20th century composer, choral conductor and teacher Francis Hall Johnson, as well as the South Dakota premiere of three art songs by contemporary American composer Jocelyn Hagen.

The recital is free, and the public is invited to attend.
