Brookings High School marching band has strong start at Rosemount Festival

BROOKINGS The Brookings High School Marching Band launched its 2025 season with the 35th Annual Rosemount Marching Band Festival on Sept. 13 in Rosemount, Minnesota.

The band earned third place in Class AA and placed sixth overall a strong start to their competitive year. Widely recognized for its elite level of competition, the Rosemount Festival drew over 20 high school bands from across the region.

Following a strong preliminary performance, Brookings secured a spot among the top 10 scoring ensembles, advancing to the prestigious Finals round.

Led by director Isaac McMahon, the band brought their 2025 field production, Written In The Stars, to life. The show guides audiences through a celestial journey chronicling the stages of a stars life cycle.

Their dynamic of musical precision, visual artistry, and emotional storytelling earned praise from both judges and spectators.

McMahon commended the groups efforts: Im extremely proud of our group this year. Were a young band over one-third of the group is new to marching band this season, he said. To earn sixth place out of over 20 bands at our first competition is a strong start. There is a lot of potential for growth throughout the remainder of the season, and we feel especially good about our show design. We may be young, but the group improves every single rehearsal and has an awesome attitude and energy.

Senior drum major Isaiah Vogt also highlighted the bands momentum. Placing well at our first competition gives us a lot of confidence, Vogt said. Everyones really motivated to keep improving each week. Were proud of how far weve come and excited for whats next.

The Brookings High School Marching Band has since also headed to Marshall, Minnesota, on Sept. 20, where it competed in the Pursuit of Excellence another high-profile event that brought together many of the regions marching programs. As the season continues, the band appreciates support from the Brookings community and fellow music programs.
