Bobcats’ comeback falls short in Pierre

PIERRE The Brookings football team rallied from 13 points down, but a fourth-quarter touchdown from Pierre handed the Bobcats their second loss of the season.

Pierre scored on a 68-yard pass in the first quarter and took a 6-0 lead into the second quarter. The Governors then had a 19-yard passing touchdown to make it 13-0.

Drew Johnson made a 29-yard field goal in the second quarter to make it 13-3. Then a three-yard touchdown run from Bergan Tetzlaff made it 13-10 at halftime.

Tetzlaff then caught a 27-yard touchdown pass from Gavin Anderson and that gave the Bobcats a 17-13 lead heading into the fourth. However, the only score in the fourth quarter was a 10-yard rushing touchdown from Pierre.

The Bobcats outgained Pierre 232-223. Brookings had 157 yards on the ground and were led by Gus Armenta, who had 114 yards on 27 carries. Tetzlaff had 34 yards and a score on seven carries.

Anderson was 7-of-12 and had 75 yards, a touchdown and an interception. Tetzlaff had four catches and had all of the 75 yards.

The Bobcat defense was led by Cash Sather, who had seven tackles, a sack and two tackles for a loss. Tetzlaff had 11.5 tackles and Jaidyn Hale had three tackles. Blake Kenngieter had 3.5 tackles.

The Bobcats host Sioux Falls Rosevelt in their homecoming game this upcoming Friday at 7 p.m.
