Bobcat soccer teams sweep Huron

BROOKINGS The Brookings soccer teams each defeated Huron on Tuesday night at Fishback Soccer Park in Brookings.

The Bobcat girls beat the Tigers 9-0 and the boys came away with a 3-0 win. The Brookings boys are now 4-4-1 and the girls are 3-4-2. The two teams will take on Aberdeen Central on Thursday in Aberdeen. The boys will play at 4 p.m. and the girls will follow at 6 p.m.

Girls

Brookings 9, Huron 0

Brookings opened the scoring 12 minutes into the game. Then Isabel Eide doubled the lead nine minutes later as she scored on a rebound. Grace Romsa pushed the lead to 3-0 with 9:20 left in the first half and she was assisted by Lauren Jones. Lexi Erp scored the final goal of the first half and she found the back of the net with 2:55 to play.

Rylee Briggs opened the second half scoring with a goal a minute and a half into the half. Shae Leffers then extended the lead to 6-0 after scoring with 16:16 left in the game. Romsa would end up with a hat trick as she scored two goals in five minutes. The first came with 13:16 left and the second was with just over eight minutes left. Brookings final goal of the match came with 6:55 left in the game.

Brookings had 27 shots and 16 of them were on goal. Lefers had seven shots and four of them were on goal. Erp had six shots and four of them were on goal. Romsa and Aubrey Giard each had five shots and three of them were on goal. Briggs had five shots and three of them were on goal as well. Aubrey Knutzen had five shots and two of them were on goal.

Boys

Brookings 3, Huron 0

All three of the Bobcats goals came in the first half. Henry Stedman scored the first goal of the game for Brookings and was assisted by Zachary Mueller. Forrest Giard then netted the second goal and he was assisted by Kyler Soost. Soost would then find Giard again later in the half to make it a three-goal game and that lead held the rest of the way.

Brookings had 13 shots and eight of them were on goal. The Bobcats had four corner kicks.

Giard had six shots and five of them were on goal. Stedmans goal was his only shot of the night. Isaiah Vogt had two shots and one was on goal. Keller Peterson had three shots, one on goal. Connor Shelden had one on goal.

Sawyer Steen was the Brookings goalkeeper and made four saves.
