SIOUX FALLS South Dakota State dominated the Augustana TwilightFriday evening as both the men’s and women’s team took first with 15 and 20 points, respectively.

“It was a good opening meet. It was fun to kind of break the rust off and I think the men did a good job of that. We ran hard enough to kind of remind them that pain is a constant in the sport. Now we know where we’re at, we need to get better, and we’ve got a couple weeks before Griak and, of course, the bigger prize is at the end of the season.”
MEN
South Dakota State saw a stellar outing at the Augustana Twilight as the team swept the top five finishers, with four student-athletes clocking new personal records. Cody Larson led the way, winning the race at 18:00.10 and obliterating the SDSU course record previously set at 18:41.8 by teammate Brandon Kampsen. Jackson Dutcher cruised across the line behind Larson to claim silver with a new personal record of 18:19.03. Cashton Johsnson showed up and showed out, finishing in third at 18:41.36. Kampsen and Will Lohr rounded out the top five finishers, crossing the line at 18:44.92 and 18:45.91, respectively.
Dale Johnson finished about 10 seconds after Lohr to place eighth with a time of 18:55.41. Cade Sanvik rounded out the top 10 at`19:12.66, followed closely by Luke Johnson in 12th, who clocked 19:17.40. Jared Lutmer made his Jackrabbit debut after redshirting last season. Lutmer crossed the finish line at 19:24.41 to place 16th in the competition.
WOMEN
The women’s team had themselves quite the night as the top three finishers of the college women’s 5K were Jackrabbits. Ashlyn Hillyard won the race with a time of 17:04.27. Eleni Lovgren barreled across the line shortly after at 17:04.76 to take second. Courtney Stadter placed third with a time of 17:08.47. Emma Gonzalez and Nora Peterson rounded out SDSU’s top five in sixth and eighth, respectively. Gonzalez clocked a time of 17:33.64, while Peterson crossed the line at 17:38.23.
Nina Dawson claimed a spot in the top 10 with a time of 17:40.42. A wave of Jackrabbits followed Dawson across the line, led by Emma Ecker . Ecker finished 14th at 17:47.22, followed by Greta Peters and Annie Robinson , making their collegiate debut. Peters crossed the line at 17:47.26 to take 15th, while Robinson placed 16th at 17:47.28. Nicole Swanson and Kelsey Schmidt rounded out the rush of Jacks in 17th and 18th, respectively. Swanson crossed the line at 17:53.03, while Schmidt clocked 17:56.03.
UP NEXT
The Jackrabbits will travel to Falcon Heights, Minn., to compete against top competition at the Roy Griak on Friday, Sept. 19.
