Bobcats shut out Mitchell to earn first victory of the season

MITCHELL The Brookings football team picked up its first win of the season on Saturday night as the Bobcats shutout Mitchell 40-0 at Joe Quintal Field.

Brookings led 13-0 at halftime and then broke the game open with a 27-point second half.

Bergan Tetzlaff opened the scoring for the Bobcats as he took a direct snap and ran into the end zone from 10 yards out on the Bobcats first drive of the game. Then in the second quarter Gavin Anderson connected with Kingston Schneider for a 22-yard score and that made it 13-0 at the break.

On the first play of the second half Gus Armenta broke free for a 78-yard run to the end zone and that made it 20-0. Brookings scored two more touchdowns in the third quarter as Anderson had touchdown passes to Ezra Eidem and Tetzlaff to make it 34-0 heading into the fourth. The final touchdown of the night came from Otto Eidsness as he worked his way into the end zone from one yard out with 70 seconds left to make the final 40-0.

Brookings had 374 total yards of offense. Anderson was 10-for-15 with 185 yards, three touchdowns and one interception. Tetzlaff had 119 total yards on offense and Armenta had 144 yards on 14 carries on the ground.

The Bobcats are now 1-1 and will play their home opener against Aberdeen on Friday at 7 p.m. at Dana J. Dykhouse Stadium.
