TORONTO A man from Twin Brooks was seriously injured after the semi and milk tanker he was driving rolled in a ditch on Aug. 28 near Toronto.
Jeffery Ecker, 49, was trapped afterward and required extrication, according to information from the Brookings County Sheriffs Office. He was taken by helicopter to Sioux Falls for treatment of his injuries.
The crash occurred on 478th Avenue near its intersection with 197th Street, roughly 3 miles south of Toronto. Ecker was driving northbound on 478th Avenue in the 2022 Kenworth semi, pulling a loaded milk tanker, when he left the road and rolled.
The truck, trailer and its contents were a total loss, (with) damage estimates indicated (at) $325,000, Assistant Sheriff Dave Biteler wrote in the news release.
Agencies responding to the crash were the South Dakota Highway Patrol, Brookings Ambulance and fire departments from Toronto and White.
Biteler said that both the sheriffs office and the Highway Patrol were continuing to investigate the crash.
