Sioux Valley, Elkton-Lake Benton and Deuborok Area were all victorious on Friday night in area football action.
The Cossacks took down Clark/Willow Lake, the Elks shutout Viborg-Hurley and the Dolphins beat Wolsey-Wessington.
Deubrook Area 42, Wolsey-Wessington 8
The Dolphins dominated the Warbirds to pick up their first win of the season.
Ty Landmark got the scoring going with a 22-yard touchdown run. Landmark then took a 26-yard screen pass from Hanson to the end zone. He would add two more touchdowns, the first a 36 yarder and the second from seven yards out. Hanson would toss two more touchdown passes as he found Josh Moberg for a 28-yard score and Ben Dobroski from 43 yards out.
Landmark had 120 yards on 21 carries and had two catches for 43 yards. Hanson was 11-of-16 for 166 yards and three touchdowns. Donbroski had four catches for 56 yards and Moberg had two catches for 38 yards.
Deubrook is now 1-1 and hosts White next Friday at 7 p.m.
Elkton-Lake Benton 43, Viborg-Hurley 0
The Elks followed up an impressive week one performance with an even more impressive outing in week two as the top-ranked team in Class 9AA shutout third-ranked Viborg-Hurley.
Colt Beck started the scoring for the Elks with a 19-yard touchdown and then he ran in the two-point conversion to make it 8-0. Beck ran in two more touchdowns in the second quarter. The first was from a 26 yards out and then a one-yard score pushed the lead to 21-0 as Wanner Enriquez made one of the two extra points.
Eliot Erickson scored from a yard out and Enriquez made the extra point to make it 28-0. Beck would add a passing touchdown towards the end of the first half as he found Savion Stephens for a 32-yard score. Enriquez added the extra point to make it 35-0 at half.
Erickson scored the only touchdown of the second half. He ran into the end zone from nine yards out and then Beck found Berk Hemmen for the two-point conversion to make the final 43-0.
The Elks had 322 total yards of offense. Beck was 8-of-10 for 168 yards through the air and had 82 yards on 13 carries on the ground. Erickson had 69 yards on 10 carries and Stephens had four catches for 78 yards. Joseph Nibbe had three catches for 45 yards and Caden Crofutt had one catch for 30 yards.
Myles Poindexter led the defense with nine tackles, a sack, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery. Quintin Westley had 6.5 tackles, two sacks and 0.5 tackles for a loss. Nibbe had six tackles, one interception and one pass break up.
ELB will head to Freeman to take on Freeman/Marion/Freeman Academy next Friday at 7 p.m.
Sioux Valley 22, Clark/Willow Lake 8
The Cossacks got in the win column after they took control in the first half.
Mitchell Guthmiller put the Cossacks up 6-0 with a 27-yard run with 9:30 left in the first quarter. Wyatt Hardt then took a run 50 yards to the house and Guthmiller ran in a two-point conversion to make it 14-0 with just over 11 minutes left in the first half. Hardt then did it with his arm and he found Guthmiller for an 11-yard score and then ran in the two-point conversion to make it 22-0 with 11 seconds left in the first half.
CWLs lone score of the game came early in the fourth quarter as Mato Denoyer ran it in from a yard out and then Joey Ries found Emmerson Larson for a two-point conversion to make the final 22-8.
Sioux Valley outgained CWL 285-76. Hardt was 2-for-5 with 51 yards in the air and had 25 carries for 178 yards on the ground. Guthmiller had eight carries for 60 yards and had two catches for 51 yards.
The Cossacks will travel to Baltic next Friday to take on the Bulldogs at 7 p.m.
