Jackrabbits blow out Southwest Minnesota State in home opener

BROOKINGS South Dakota State won its first game of the year in dominating style on Friday night at Fishback Soccer Park as the Jackrabbits topped Southwest Minnesota State 7-0.

SDSU scored two goals in the first half. Mia Bosch got the Jacks on the scoreboard in the 16th minutes with a goal that was assisted by Hailee Christensen. In the 39th minute Deizha Lyn Jacinto scored the first goal of her career and it was unassisted.

The Jacks then scored three goals in a span of eight minutes, beginning in the 63rd minute with another goal from Christensen. Emma Brezenski then scored the first goal of her career in the and she was assisted by Brianna Finnegan to make it 4-0 a minute later. MaKynlie Cade added to the list of players to score their first goal in the yellow and blue as she found the back of the net in the 70th minute and she was assisted by Finnegan and Ellie Gusman.

Finnegan scored for the first time in her career in the 75th minute and was assisted by Jenna Maloy to make it 6-0. The final goal of the night for SDSU was another one from Jacinto in the 81st minute and she was assisted by Cade and Abria Booker.

SDSU had 35 shots and 15 of them were on goal. Jacinto had four shots and two of them were on goal. Brezenski had four shots and one of them was on goal and Cade had three shots and one of them was on goal. Bosch had two shots on goal and Christensen had two shots and one of them was on goal. Lauren Walter and Finnegan each had one shot on goal. Adrianne Agbayani and Lauren Eckerle each had two shots. Gusman had four shots and Shelby Hopeau had three shots. Taylor Thomas had one shot.

Stephanie Leckwold was in net for all 90 minutes for SDSU. The Mustangs only registered one shot and it was not on goal.

SDSU is now 1-1-1 on the season. The eight goals in Fridays contest were the most since 2018 when the Jacks beat Wayne State. The eight assists for the team were tied for third most in a game in program history.

The Jacks will head to Hawaii next. Theyll play three games, starting with Hawaii Pacific on Monday. Then theyll take on California Baptist on Thursday and Northern Arizona on Aug. 31.
