WAUBAY The Elkton-Lake Benton football team dominated in their opening game of the season as the Elks topped Waubay-Summit 59-8.
The Elks outscored the Mustangs 28-0 in the first quarter and then took a 45-8 lead into halftime. 24 more points from ELB in the third quarter ended the game due the mercy rule.
The ELB offense was led by quarterback Colt Beck. He had 165 yards and three touchdowns on the ground and was 3-of-4 for 45 yards and a score through the air. Eliot Erickson had 48 yards and a touchdown on two carries and Kaleb Larson had 87 yards and a score on five carries.
Beck also led the Elks defense with six tackles and two tackles for a loss. Myles Poindexter had 5.5 tackles and Quintin Westley had 4.5 tackles. Tait Boersma had four tackles and two tackles for a loss.
Wanner Enriquez was 1-for-1 on field goals and made all six of his extra points.
ELB will host Viborg-Hurley in its home opener in Elkton next Friday at 7 p.m.
