BROOKINGS The Brookings girls soccer team lost to OGorman 4-1 on Thursday night at Fishback Soccer Park in Brookings.
The Lady Knights found the back of the net twice in the first two minutes. Brookings was then able to get on the board as Josie Hegerfeld scored with 11:47 left in the first half. The goal was unassisted.
OGorman scored one more time in the first half as the Lady Knights made it 3-1 with 10:20 to play in the first half. They then made the final 4-1 with a goal with 1:24 left in the game.
Brookings head coach Adam Juba said he thought his team played a lot better in the second half but they need to start putting a full 80 minutes together.
We played well when we were able to start stringing some passes together. The possession in the second half was much better. I thought we dominated possession in the second half. The first half, it just took us a little while to get into the game. Thats kind of been our story lately. It kind of takes us a bit to get going in the game, Juba said.
Brookings has fallen behind in the first half in every one of its games so far. That has resulted in a 0-3-1 record. Juba said there isnt anything in particular that needs to change to avoid the slow starts, but once his team figures it out the success will come.
Its a hard question to answer. I dont know if I have an answer right now, but were going to figure it out and then start to string some wins together, Juba said.
The Bobcats had 20 shots and 10 of them were on goal. Hegerfeld had two shots and both of them were on goal. Shae Lefers had five shots and four of them were on goal and Grace Roms had three shots and two of them were on goal. Rylee Briggs and Aubrey Knutzen each had two shots. Lexi Erp had two shots, one on goal, and Lauren Jones had one shot on goal. Aubrey Giard, Lindsey Walker and Liv Ragsdale each had one shot.
Despite falling behind in each of the four games, Juba said it has shown that his team has a lot of resilience as tonight was the first time they lost by more than one goal.
Any time that weve been down, the girls have fought back. They have a lot of heart. So, we know we can play when we’re down and get back into the game. We know we can do that, but now, we have to get ahead early and force other teams to chase us, Juba said.
Brookings will look to get its first win on Aug. 28 as the Bobcats will host Watertown at 6 p.m.
