ESTELLINE A man from Estelline is facing multiple charges following his arrest for drugs in the 600 block of State Avenue East in Estelline.
Evenor Suazo Tellez, 27, was sent to the Brookings County Detention Center following the Aug. 13 incident, Hamlin County Sheriff Chad Schlotterbeck told The Brookings Register. A call to the detention center indicated that Tellez was released on a personal recognizance bond and, as of Aug. 20, was in the custody of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
The charges are:
- Identity theft (a Class 6 felony)
- Maintaining a place where drugs are kept or sold (a Class 5 felony)
- Two counts of possession of controlled substances (a Class 5 felony)
- Inhabiting a room knowing drugs are kept (a Class 1 misdemeanor)
- Possession of drug paraphernalia (a Class 2 misdemeanor)
The incident unfolded when, in a collaboration between the Lake Norden Police Department and the sheriffs office, a deputy and a Lake Norden K9 officer initiated a drug investigation and arrested Tellez after a search warrant was issued for his apartment. Cocaine, methamphetamine, drug paraphernalia and a fake drivers license were discovered, according to information from the sheriffs office.
Tellezs next court date is set for Sept. 2.
