Sioux Falls resident charged with making false statements

SIOUX FALLS A Sioux Falls woman has been indicted on federal charges after authorities said she made false statements during a gun purchase.

Chardea Danies Odom, 30, pleaded not guilty to the indictment.

The U.S. Attorneys Office District of South Dakota said that Odom purchased a firearm from a local, licensed firearm dealer in June.

Odom said she was the buyer of firearm on the purchase paperwork. It was later used by a person prohibited from possession a gun and led to shootings in Sioux Falls. One of those shootings involved law enforcement officers.

South Dakota Attorney General Marty Jackley said Odoms actions led to the lives of three law enforcement officers being threatened.

Odom now faces a total maximum of 15 years in custody and $500,000 fines from both accusations.
