Bobcat boys soccer goes 1-0-1 in opening weekend

BROOKINGS The Brookings boys soccer team opened the 2025 season with a win and a draw over the weekend at the Fishback Soccer Complex in Brookings.

The Bobcats beat Spearfish 4-0 in the season opener on Friday and then played Pierre to a 1-1 draw on Saturday. Brookings will play at Tea Area on Tuesday at 6 p.m.

Friday

Brookings 4, Spearfish 0

Brookings scored two goals in each half. Griffin Bachman got the scoring going for the Cats with a goal in the 18th minute and it was assisted by Connor Shelden. Kyler Soost then scored right before halftime as he put one in the back of the net in the 39th minute and it was assisted by Forest Giard.

Shelden scored again in the 59th minute and this time it was assisted by Jasper Lee. Zachary Mueller scored the final goal of the game for Brookings and it was assisted by Shelden.

Shelden had five shots and three of them were on goal. Giard had four shots and two of them were on goal and Mueller had three shots and two of them were on goal. Griffin Bachman and Henry Stedmen each had two shots and one on goal. Keller Peterson and Soost each had one shot on goal.

Sawyer Steen was in net for the Bobcats and he made five saves.

Saturday

Brookings 1, Pierre 1

Brookings scored in the eighth minute and was unable to put another in the back of the net the rest of the way. Giard scored the lone goal for Brookings and he was assisted by Shelden.

Giard had four shots and two of them were on goal. Shelden and Soost each had one shot that was on goal. Steen made two saves.
