Having read Prof. Burns opinion in Wednesday’s paper, I feel I must respond. The bills that he mentions (American Rescue Plan Act, Bipartisan Infrastructure Act and Inflation Reduction Act) were proposed and passed under the Biden Administration, and all of them increased the national debt (thereby increasing inflation).
Burns obviously believes that borrowing money to give away is a good idea. I believe we all should be generous with our resources, but to borrow money to give away is not only ridiculous but is unwise and none of us would do it with our own resources, but he thinks it is a good idea to do it with government money!
Maybe we shouldn’t be surprised by his opinion as his degree is in political science. I can find no major donors to SDSU that had a degree in political science and I have never heard of any companies coming on campus to hire those graduates.
Our government had a budget surplus in June because of reduced spending and additional tariff income. We should all be thankful for the reduced spending even if some of our personal favorites were cut. We have had more government than we can afford for years and the low value of our dollar is a direct result of that.
