Volga Post 114 kept their season alive with a 75 win over Madison Post 25 in a South Dakota Legion Baseball regional elimination game on July 23.
Volga jumped out to an early lead, capitalizing on two hits and a Madison error to score three runs in the top of the first. They added to their cushion with a run in the second and two more in the third, while starting pitcher Broden Teske retired the first nine Madison batters in order.
Madison broke through in the bottom of the fourth, scoring two runs on their first hit of the game combined with a pair of Volga miscues, cutting the lead to 62. Volga answered with a run in the fifth, but Madison matched it in the bottom half.
The sixth inning saw Madisons pitching shut down Volga for the first time with a one-two-three inning. In the bottom of the frame, Madison continued to apply pressure, using a single, a walk, and a two-out error to bring in two more runs and pull within two, ending the inning with a score of 75.
Volga threatened in the top of the seventh but left runners on base. Teske and the Volga defense held firm in the bottom half, allowing only a hit batter to seal the 75 victory.
Volgas offense produced nine hits across the lineup and left nine runners in scoring position. Isaac Skovlund led the charge with three hits, while Braden Danzeisen contributed two hits and two RBIs. Levi Loban drove in two runs, and Ethan Axtell notched the only extra-base hit with a double.
Teske earned the win, going the distance with seven innings of work. The right-hander allowed five runs all unearned on two hits, four walks, and a hit batter, while striking out two.
