ABERDEEN The Brookings Bombers Black team made it out of pool play at the 14U State Tournament over the weekend in Aberdeen.
The Bombers went 2-1 in pool play as they lost to Brandon Valley 10-5 on Friday and then beat Rapid City 16-1 on Saturday and Tea 16-6 on Sunday.
Brookings will play Harrisburg MAG on Monday at 10:15 a.m. If the Bombers win that game theyll play Brandon Valley in the semifinals at 2:45 p.m. The championship game is scheduled for 5 p.m.
Friday
Brandon Valley 10, Brookings 5
Brandon Valley led 10-0 through five innings and held off Brookings the rest of the way.
The Lynx scored three runs in the bottom of the first. The first run came on a single and then a two-run single pushed the lead to 3-0.
Another RBI single made it 4-0 in the second and then Brandon Valley scored five runs in the bottom of the third. The first run in the third came from a single and then a sacrifice fly made it 6-0. A bases-loaded walk and a bases-clearing double extended the lead to 10-0.
Brookings scored two runs in the top of the fourth. Ty Delbridge hit Mason Burzlaff home with a double and then Cooper Drawdy came home on a Dario McSweeney to make it 10-2.
The Bombers scored three more runs in the top of the fifth to cut the lead to 10-5. Brady Nutter scored on a double from Burzlaff and then Burzlaff and Drawdy scored on a double from Hayden Jones to make it 10-5. Brookings was unable to score any more runs the rest of the way.
Brookings had eight hits in the loss. Jones was 1-for-3 with two RBIs and Burzlaff and Delbridge were each 2-for-4 with an RBI. Drawdy was 2-for-2 and Nutter was 1-for-2.
Drawdy pitched two innings and gave up five runs, three earned, on seven hits with no strikeouts and one walk. Jones pitched an inning and gave up five runs, one earned, on four hits with no strikeouts and one walk. Nutter pitched three innings and gave up no runs on two hits with one walk and one strikeout.
Saturday
Brookings 16, Rapid City Post 22 1
Brookings scored seven runs in the top of the sixth to put the game out of reach.
The Bombers led 2-0 after the first inning. Burzlaff scored on a Delbridge single and then Delbridge came home on a double from Jones.
Brookings extended the lead to 9-0 in the top of the third. Burzlaff scored on a Jones single and Drawdy scored on a single from McSweeney to make it 4-0. Jennings Huntimer was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded and Jones scored on a Carter Nielsen ground out to make it 6-0. Ty Johnson hit McSweeney and Huntimer home with a double and Johnson scored on a passed ball to push the lead to 9-0.
Rapid Citys lone run of the game came in the bottom of the third on a double. Brookings then scored seven runs in the top of the sixth.
Huntimer was walked with the bases loaded and Grayson Wagner was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded as well. Johnson and Burzlaff each walked with the bases loaded too and Delbridge hit Burzlaff and Johnson home with a single to make the final 16-1.
The Bombers had 10 hits. Delbridge was 2-for-4 with three RBIs and Johnson was 1-for-4 with three RBIs. Jones was 4-for-5 with two RBIs and Burzlaff was 1-for-2 with two RBIs. McSweeney was 1-for-3 with an RBI and Nielsen was 1-for-4 with an RBI. Huntimer had two RBIs without a hit and Drawdy and Wagner each had an RBI without a hit.
Delbridge started the game on the mound and pitched five innings. He gave up one earned run on three hits with six strikeouts and one walk. Wagner pitched an innings and gave up no runs or hits and had no strikeouts and two walks.
Sunday
Brookings 16, Tea 6
Brookings broke a 4-4 tie in the bottom of the fourth with seven runs and then pushed that lead to 10 by the end of the game.
Each team scored two runs in the first inning. Tea scored its runs on two singles. Drawdy hit Johnson home with a triple and Drawdy scored on a Delbridge ground out to make it 2-2.
Nielsen scored on a Burzlaff ground out in the bottom of the second and then Jones scored on a wild pitch to make it 4-2. Tea scored runs on a double and a ground out to make it 4-4.
Drawdy hit another RBI triple in the bottom of the fourth and then he scored on a single from Jones to make it 6-4. McSweeney hit Delbridge home with a sacrifice fly and Wagner and Jones each scored on a single from Johnson to make it 9-4. Drawdy was then walked with the bases loaded and Johnson scored on a wild pitch to extend the lead to 11-4.
Tea scored a run on a single in the top of the fifth to make it 11-5. McSweeny scored on a wild pitch in the bottom of the fifth and then Wagner and Huntimer scored on a Nielsen single to make it 14-5.
Tea would cut the lead to 14-6 with a sacrifice fly in the top of the sixth. Drawdy and Burzlaff scored on a single from Jones to make it 16-6 and that was the final.
The Bombers had 12 hits in the win. Jones was 4-for-5 with three RBIs and Drawdy was 2-for-3 with three RBIs. Nielsen was 2-for-2 with two RBIs and Johnson was 3-for-5 with two RBIs. Burzlaff and Delbridge each had an RBI without a hit.
Drawdy pitched the first five innings and gave up five earned runs on 10 hits with three strikeouts and one walk. Jones pitched an inning and gave up one earned run on one hit with one walk and no strikeouts.
