HURON A Miller man who died in a two-vehicle crash in Huron on July 21 has been identified by authorities.
Preliminary crash information indicates Caleb William Schuette, 31, the driver of a 2001 Buick LeSabre, was traveling northbound on West Park Avenue and failed to yield at the stop sign and entered the intersection at U.S. Highway 14. A semi, driven by Jeremy Elmer Getscher, 34, of Wolsey, was traveling eastbound on U.S. 14 and collided with the Buick.
The Buick came to rest in the northwest ditch and the semi came to rest in the eastbound lanes of U.S. 14, closing the highway for approximately five hours. Schuette sustained fatal injuries while Getscher was not injured.
Seat belts were used by both drivers. The South Dakota Highway Patrol is investigating the crash. All information released so far is only preliminary.
