Brookings Swim Club wins 12 state titles

July has been a busy month for the Brookings Swim Club as they wrapped up their long course season in the last few weeks. Twelve swimmers attended the Long Course B Championship meet in Pierre on July 11-13 and 31 attended the Long Course A Championship meet in Aberdeen on July 18-20.

In Pierre, the 9-10 girls 200 meter medley relay team of Maggie Abbas, Fallon Kelley, Eisalee Kelly and Addisyn Rausch took home a state title. Brooklyn Rausch finished in third in the high point standings and Andrew Thompson and Kendra Pikul each finished in fourth place in the high point standings.

The BSC had 11 state titles from five individuals in Aberdeen. Sofia Gonzalez led the way with four first-place finishes in the Girls 15-16 Division. She won the 400 meter freestyle, 800 meter freestyle, 1500 meter freestyle and 100 meter breaststroke.

Kalla Foerster had three titles in the Girls 15-16 Division. She came in first in the 100 meter backstroke, 200 meter breaststroke and 200 meter individual medley.

Quinn Humphrey won the 50 meter breaststroke and 100 meter breaststroke in the Girls 9-10 Division. Emmett Morehouse came in first in the 800 meter freestyle in the Boys 11-12 Division. Hudson Rausch won the 100 meter butterfly in the 8U Division.

Along with the 11 state titles, Brookings had six swimmers finish in the top five of the high point race in Aberdeen. Foerster came in first, Gonzalez and Quinn Humphrey each came in second. Morehouse finished in fourth and Jensen Weber and Hudson Rausch each came in fifth.

I am incredibly proud of the good sportsmanship, determination and perseverance that the BSC swimmers showed throughout the season, said BSC Director of Swimming Allison Meland.
