The Brookings Bullseye Busters concluded their season with a successful trip to the Daisy National Air Gun Competition. In Rogers, Arkansas, shooters had the opportunity to meet and compete against some of the best in the nation.
This years BB Gun team placed 11th. Team members included: Bailey Gjernes, daughter of Joie and Brooke Gjernes, Autumn Axtell, daughter of Paul and Renae Axtell, Elizabeth Sauders, daughter of Chris and Erika Saunders, Otto Faber, son of Danny and Tara Faber, Kaylin Gjernes, daughter of Joie and Brooke Gjernes, Andrew McMahon, son of Peter and Shayna McMahon, and Cadance Wentworth, daughter of Mark and Charney Wentworth. The BB gun shooters are coached by Darci IntVeld and Alan Liljegren.
The Bullseye Busters also sent two BB Gun competitors in the Returning Champions division: Rose McMahon, daughter of Peter and Shayna McMahon, and Levi Liljegren, son of Alan and Mandy Liljegren. McMahon placed 12th overall with a score of 474-14. Liljegren placed 14th with a score of 471-17. BB Gun participants compete in four shooting positions: prone, standing, sitting, and kneeling, and take a written test covering gun safety and general knowledge. Awards are given to top ranking individuals in each of the four positions, high test scores, as well as aggregate scores.
The air rifle team placed sixthas a team in their first ever appearance at Daisy Nationals. Team members included: Lidia Dupraz, daughter of Andy and Val Dupraz, Claire McMahon, daughter of Peter and Shayna McMahon, Sara Dupraz, daughter of Andy and Val Dupraz, and Lauren Langum, daughter of Tom and Joan Langum. The team is coached by Peter McMahon. Air rifle teams compete in three different shooting positions: prone, standing, and kneeling.
Several team members reached new personal records at the competition, along with four members receiving special recognition for their exceptional performance at Nationals. Lidia Dupraz placed eighth as an individual in air rifle, earning her a chance to compete in the top ten shoot out and a scholarship for her excellent marksmanship skills. Autumn Axtell placed third in the kneeling position with a score of 97-5 ! Levi Liljegren placed secondin the sitting position with a score of 98-8! Bailey Gjernes received an award for her perfect score on the written test.
One of the many scheduled events that coaches, competitors and spectators look forward to every year is the coaches shoot off. Coach IntVeld was selected to participate in this fun event where coaches are chosen at random to compete against each other. Her team provided her with a dominant cheering section mirroring the same level of enthusiasm and support that they have received from their coaches over the years.
