The Brookings Bombers Black 14U team went 0-3 over the weekend.
The Bombers were swept by Tea in a doubleheader on Friday night and lost game one of a doubleheader in Watertown on Sunday before game two was called off due to weather.
Brookings is now 15-21-2 on the season and will play in the State Tournament in Aberdeen this upcoming weekend.
Friday
Game 1: Tea 3, Brookings 2
TEA Tea scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth to earn the victory in game one.
Brookings led 1-0 at the end of the first inning as Cooper Drawdy hit Mason Burzlaff home with a single. Jennings Huntimer then scored on a Mason Burghardt sacrifice fly in the top of the sixth to make it 2-0.
Teas three runs came on a home run over the right field fence in the bottom of the sixth from Colby Coyne and it was a walk-off home run.
The Bombers had four hits in the loss. Drawdy was 1-for-2 with an RBI and Ty Delbridge was 1-for-2 as well. Dario McSweeney and Hayden Jones each went 1-for-3 and Burghardt had an RBI without a hit.
Burzlaff pitched a complete game for the Bombers. He gave up three earned runs on two hits with four strikeouts and two walks.
Game 2: Tea 9, Brookings 8
TEA Tea broke an 8-8 tie in the bottom of the sixth and then held off Brookings in the top of the seventh.
Tea led 5-0 after the first two innings. Both runs in the bottom of the first came from a pair of fielder’s choices. Another run from a fielders choice and runs from a ground out and a passed ball made it 5-0.
Brookings got on the board in the top of the third when Delbridge hit Ty Johnson home with a single. Burghardt scored on a sacrifice fly from Johnson in the fourth and later in the inning Grayson Wagner scored on a single from Burzlaff to make it 5-3.
Tea extended its lead to 8-3 in the bottom of the fourth. The Titans scored runs from an error and a single.
The Chutes cut the lead to 8-6 in the top of the fifth. Burghardt scored on an error and then Johnson hit Carter Nielsen and Wagner home with a single to make it a two-run game.
Brookings tied the game in the top of the sixth. Delbridge scored on a wild pitch and then Burghardt scored on an error to make it 8-8.
The game-winning run for the Titans came on a ground out. Burzlaff led off the top of the seventh and reached on an error. However, the next three batters went down in order.
The Chutes had 11 hits in the loss. Johnson was 2-for-4 with three RBIs and Delbridge was 2-for-5 with an RBI. Burzlaff was 2-for-4 with an RBI and Burghardt was 2-for-3. Brady Nutter was 1-for-1 and Huntimer and Drawdy were each 1-for-4.
Wagner pitched three innings and gave up five runs, four earned, on one hit with two strikeouts and two walks. Johnson pitched the final three innings and gave up four unearned runs on two hits with one strikeout and two walks.
Sunday
Watertown 8, Brookings 5
WATERTOWN Watertown scored seven runs in the top of the second and that gave them enough of a cushion to earn the victory on Sunday.
Brookings led 4-0 at the end of the first inning. Delbridge hit Burzlaff home with a double and then scored on a double from Hayden Jones. McSweeney hit Jones home with a single and then Nutter was walked with the bases loaded to make it 4-0.
The Arrows scored a run on a fielders choice in the bottom of the second and then two hits batters and three walks with the bases loaded made it 6-4. Then an RBI single pushed the lead to 7-4.
A run from an error in the fifth extended the lead to 8-4. Delbridge hit Burzlaff home with a single in the top of the sixth to make the final 8-5.
Brookings had seven hits in the loss. Delbridge was 2-for-2 with two RBIs and McSweeney was 2-for-4 with an RBI. Jones was 1-for-4 with an RBI and Burzlaff was 1-for-2. Burghardt was 1-for-3 and Nutter had an RBI without a hit.
Jones pitched an inning and third and gave up seven earned runs on two hits with two strikeouts and one walk. Delbridge pitched four and two thirds innings and gave up one unearned run on three hits with eight strikeouts and four walks.
