BROOKINGS The Brookings Bombers White 13/14U team lost 15-12 to the West Central 14U team on Thursday night at Mickelson Middle School.
West Central outscored Brookings 9-4 in the final two innings to earn the victory.
The Royals led 2-1 after the first inning. Their first run of the game came on a single and then a sacrifice fly made it 2-0. Hudson Vincent hit Derek Jordan home with a double in the bottom of the inning to cut the lead in half.
West Central scored a run on a double in the top of the second to make it 3-1. Brookings then gained the lead in the bottom of the second.
Griffin Streich and Beau Thompson each scored on errors to tie the game. Jaxon Neuharth then stole home and Kuddyer Baugher hit Jordan home with a single to make it 5-3.
West Central cut the lead to 5-4 in the top of the third with a run from a single. Brookings then stretched the lead to 8-4.
Thompson scored on a balk by a pitcher and then Delton Brownell came home on a Jordan single to make it 7-4. Jordan then scored on a double from Baugher to make it a four-run game through four innings.
A two-run single from the Royals in the top of the fifth cut the lead in half. Then another two-run single and a two-run double gave them the lead in the top of the sixth. Later in the inning a run on a ground out made it 11-8.
Warner Carroll scored on a Jordan ground out in the bottom of the sixth to make it 11-9. Then a two-run double, an RBI single and a run from a wild pitch pushed the West Central lead to 15-9 in the top of the seventh.
Brookings scored three runs in the bottom of the inning but was unable to complete the comeback. Lucas Kahler and Landon Mosley scored on a double from Streich and he scored on a balk to make the final 15-12.
The Bombers had 11 hits in the loss. Streich and Baugher were each 2-for-4 with two RBIs. Jordan was 2-for-3 with two RBIs and Brownell and Vincent were each 1-for-3 with an RBI. Carroll, Kahler and Thompson were each 1-for-3 and Neuharth had an RBI without a hit.
Baugher pitched four innings and gave up four earned runs on seven hits with four strikeouts and no walks. Brownell pitched two innings and gave up seven earned runs on six hits with one strikeout and no walks. Jordan pitched the final inning and gave up four runs, two earned, on two hits with two strikeouts and one walk.
Brookings is now 18-7 on the season. The Bombers will play a doubleheader at Brandon Valley on Friday starting at 5 p.m.
