BROOKINGS The Brookings Bombers White 13/14U team fell 7-3 to the Volga White 14U team on Wednesday night at Mickelson Middle School.
Volga led 5-1 after the first four innings and hung onto that lead the rest of the way.
Volga scored two runs in the top of the second. Luke Langland and Brendin Moe hit back-to-back singles to lead off the inning. Langland scored on a Jamison Tanderup ground out and then Moe scored on a Ashton Warne single to make it 2-0.
Brookings got one run back in the bottom of second. Lucas Kahler and Kuddyer Baugher each walked to begin the half inning. Baugher then came home on a Hudson Vincent single to make it 2-1.
Volga would extend the lead to 4-1 in the top of the third. Parker Top hit a one-out single and then Damon Uecker was hit by a pitch. Top scored on an error and Uecker stole home to make it a three-run game.
Warne hit a lead-off single for Volga in the top of the fourth. He was thrown out after an error and Colton Hoeke reached on the play. Hoeke then advanced to third on a Coy Niemann single and then stole home to make it 5-1.
Uecker led off the fifth with a single and then scored on a single from Teagan Moad to make it 6-1. Brookings then scored two runs in the bottom of the inning.
Vincent hit a one-out single and then Landon Mosley walked and Warner Carroll reached on an error to load the bases up. Delton Brownell then hit Vincent and Mosley home with a triple but Carroll was thrown out trying to score so it was 6-3 heading into the sixth.
Warne reached on an error with one out in the top of the sixth and then Hoeke followed with a single. Warne would then score on a wild pitch to make it 7-3 and Brookings was unable to score any more runs the rest of the way.
Brookings had three hits in the loss. Vincent was 2-for-3 with an RBI and Brownell was 1-for-4 with two RBIs.
Griffin Streich pitched the first five innings and gave up six runs, three earned, on 10 hits with three strikeouts and one walk. Kahler pitched the final two innings and gave up one unearned run on two hits with one strikeout and no walks.
Brookings is now 18-6 on the season and hosts West Central on Thursday at 6 p.m.
