BROOKINGS The Brookings Bombers Gray 13/14U team scored two runs in the bottom of seventh to top Volga 14U on Tuesday night at Mickelson Middle School.
Volga jumped out to a 2-0 lead with a run in each of the first two innings. Koltyn Kissner hit a lead-off double and then scored on a wild pitch in the first inning. Sawyer Oines then hit a lead-off single in the second and then advanced to second on an error. He would then score on a different error to make it 2-0.
Brookings tied the game in the bottom of the fourth. Rocco Murano reached on an error to begin the half inning and then Noah Hamann and Teagan Wallace followed with walks to load the bases up. Murano scored on a wild pitch and Hamann scored on a ground out to make it 2-2.
Volga scored four runs in the top of the sixth. Kissner hit a lead-off triple and then an error from the center fielder allowed him to score. Chad Hllin and Oines then hit singles to put two runners on with two outs and both runners scored on a Tosten Tangen double. Tangen then came home on a wild pitch to push the lead to 6-2.
Brookings got three runs back in the bottom of the sixth. Colin Andrew drew a walk with one out and then Shinji Numata followed with a single. Lincoln Schaar hit a single as well to load the bases up and Kale Weicker hit all runners home with a double and that cut the lead to 6-5.
Volga went down one-two-three in the top of the seventh and Murano led off the bottom of the inning with a walk. Wallace was walked with one out and then Andrews hit Murano home with a single to tie the game. Wallace moved his way to third on a walk from Jess Johnson and then scored the game-winning run on a single from Schaar.
Brookings had 10 hits in the win. Weiker 2-for-3 with three RBIS and Schaar was 2-for-3 with an RBI. Andrews was 1-for-3 with two RBIs and Brayden Britnall was 3-for-4. Numata was 2-for-5.
Schaar pitched the first two innings and gave up two runs, one earned, on three hits with one strikeout and one walk. Johnson pitched three and two thirds innings and gave up four earned runs on five hits with one strikeout and no walks. Numata pitched the final inning and a third and gave up no runs or hits and gave up two strikeouts and two walks.
Brookings moved to 5-16 on the season and hosts a doubleheader with Pierre on Wednesday at 2 p.m.
