BROOKINGS The Brookings Chutes split a junior legion baseball doubleheader with the Renner Kings on Thursday night at Bob Shelden Field.
Brookings won game 5-4 in walk-off fashion before losing game two 5-0. The Chutes are now 14-7 and will play a doublehead in Renner against the Sultans on Friday starting at 5 p.m.
Game One
Brookings 5, Renner 4
Dixon Dauer hit Baker Hanson home with a single in the bottom of the seventh inning for a walk-off win for the Chutes in game one.
Brookings jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning. Jude Meendering walked with one out and Noah Lease followed with a single. Hanson then reached on an error to load the bases up with two outs. Dauer then came to the plate and hit one into right field and that allowed Meendering and Lease to come home.
Renner cut the lead in half in the top of the third. Ethan Olson drew a lead-off walk and was then thrown out at second on a Tanner Charron ground out. Charron made his way to second on an error and then stole third. He then came home on a passed ball to make it 2-1.
The Kings took the lead in the top of the fourth. Preston Lee hit a two-out single and then scored on an Olson single. Olson made his way to third on an error and scored on a different error to make it 3-2 heading into the bottom of the fourth.
Brookings regained the lead in the bottom of the fifth. Nolan Krogman and Meendering hit back-to-back singles to start the inning. They each advanced on a ground out from Lease and then Krogman scored on a wild pitch. Ben Schulte and Dauer were then walked with two outs to load the bases up. Parker Witte came to the plate next and was walked as well to make it 4-3 through five innings.
Renner tied the game back up in the top of the sixth. Olson was hit by a pitch to start the inning and then Aaron Stoll singled and Charron reached on an error to load the bases up with no outs. Olson came home on a fielders choice from Murphy Eisenberg to make it 4-4.
Hanson hit a one-out single in the bottom of the seventh. He advanced into scoring position on a Schulte sacrifice bunt and that set up the game-winning hit from Dauer.
Brookings had six hits in the win. Dauer was 2-for-3 with three RBIs and Meendering and Lease were each 1-for-3. Krogman and Hanson were each 1-for-4.
Lease pitched the first five innings and gave up three runs, two earned, on five hits with five strikeouts and three walks. Hanson pitched the final two innings and gave up one unearned run on one hit with one strikeout and one walk.
Game Two
Renner 5, Brookings 0
The two teams combined for eight hits but Renner took advantage when it got runners on base.
The Kings led 1-0 after the first inning. Charron walked to start the game and then scored on an error.
Renner extended the lead to 4-0 in the top of the fifth. Karson Tolley walked with one out and then advanced to second on a single from Anders Holte. Each runner scored on an error to make it 3-0. Charron singled and then scored on a single from Stoll to push the lead to four.
The final run of the game for the Kings came in the top of the sixth. Talec Schlimgen hit a one-out triple and then stole home to make it 5-0.
Brookings had three hits. Meendering was 1-for-2 and Lease and Hanson were each 1-for-3.
Krogman pitched the first six innings and gave up five runs, three earned, on four hits with six strikeouts and three walks. Sutton Schneider pitched the seventh inning and gave up one hit and had one walk and no strikeouts.
