BROOKINGS A Sioux Falls man was arrested and charged following an alleged incident involving a bomb threat at the Starbucks coffeehouse on 22nd Avenue South in Brookings.
William D. Watkins Jr., 21, was taken into custody by the Brookings Police Department following an investigation into Wednesdays incident, BPD Chief Michael Drake wrote in a Thursday evening news release. Watkins is facing a terroristic threat charge, which is a Class 5 felony punishable by up to five years in prison and/or a $10,000 fine.
The BPDs investigation indicated that at approximately 3:37 p.m. Wednesday, the Starbucks location in question received a phone call claiming that someone in the drive-thru had a bomb, Drake said.
It was quickly determined that the threat was not credible, he said.
Watkins was released from the Brookings County Detention Center on Thursday afternoon on a personal recognizance bond. A court hearing has been set for 9 a.m. Aug. 11 in Brookings.
