BROOKINGS The Brookings Bullets 16U team was swept in a doubleheader against Watertown on Monday night at Bob Shelden Field.
It was a tough night for the Bullets as they lost game one 15-3 and then fell 11-1 in game two. Brookings dropped to 7-17 on the season and will play in the Buffalo Wild Wings Classic this weekend in Brookings.
Game 1: Watertown 15, Brookings 3
The game was delayed in the second inning due to weather, but when the teams returned to the field it was Watertown who won via the 10-run rule in four innings.
Watertown scored 12 runs in the first two innings and 11 of them came in the second. The run in the first inning was from an RBI triple.
An RBI single and a two-run single pushed the lead to 4-0 with one out in the second. Runs from a two-run single and an error with two outs made it 7-0. Then a run from a passed ball and another single made it 9-0. An RBI double and another two-run single stretched the lead to 12-0.
Watertown then went up 15-0 in the third. The Arrows scored on a two-run double and a wild pitch to make it a 15-run game.
Brookings scored three runs in the next two innings but was unable to cut the lead under 10 runs. Camden Reicks led off the bottom of the third with a double and then scored on a James Murray single. Rylan Hesser hit a lead-off single in the fourth and then Wesden Van Ede hit a double to put two runners on. Hesser scored on an error and Van Ede came home on a sacrifice fly from Jace Jaacks to make the final 15-3.
The Bullets had four hits. Reicks was 1-for-1 with an RBI and Murray was 1-for-2 with an RBI. Hesser and Van Ede were each 1-for-2.
Game 2: Watertown 11, Brookings 1
Game two ended due to the 10-run rule as well but this time it wasnt until the sixth inning.
Watertown scored two runs in the top of the first. The first run came on an error and then a run from a wild pitch made it 2-0.
The Arrows pushed the lead to 6-0 in the top of the third. Two runners came home on wild pitches and then a run scored on an error to make it 5-0. Another run came home on an error to stretch the lead to six.
Brookings lone run came in the bottom of the third. Murray walked with one out and then advanced to second on a wild pitch. Then he got caught in rundown between second and third but an error by the shortstop allowed him to come home.
Watertown scored three runs in the top of the fifth as the Arrows scored one on a wild pitch and then a two-run triple made it 9-1. Two runs on an error in the top of the sixth pushed the lead to 11-1 and then Brookings went down one-two-three in the bottom of the sixth.
The Bullets had three hits. Grant Horn was 2-for-2 and Lincoln Helmbolt was 1-for-2.
