Attending and graduating high school is a rite of passage in our country, certainly an important one.
Our children start to establish themselves as adults and search for what possibilities are in their futures. In order for schools to hold up their end of the bargain and have the best chance of being successful, they need consistent leadership at all levels: teachers, staff, administrators, district office with all its various departments, etc.
And, like any efficient, productive organization, the more everyone is on the same page and heading in the same direction, the better the results.
I have always thought one of the key linchpins in this is the principal. The principal is the person that sits in that position of being between school stakeholders and the district office and superintendent.
At times, it is not an easy job to say the least. The principal has the job of implementing all of the districts procedures and policies while making sure to connect with the community in a positive way.
All that being said, it is vital that a school site and district office are on the same page and heading the same direction: a team that delivers for its students. I dont know all the in and outs of how we are going through high school principals and superintendents, but the obvious conclusion here is that a situation has been created that is not in the best interest of students.
I am guessing, at the minimum, there is a huge communication problem between the high school leadership and the district leadership. I have met so many educators holding a variety of positions in Brookings. Brookings is blessed to have so many dedicated educators.
Lets fix this.
