Bullets swept in doubleheader in Watertown

WATERTOWN The Brookings Bullets 16U team was swept in a doubleheader against Watertown on Tuesday night.

The Arrows won game one 13-3 and then came away with a 9-7 win in game two. Brookings is now 7-15 and will play a doubleheader with Watertown again on July 7 in Brookings at 5 p.m.

Game 1: Watertown 13, Brookings 3

Watertown led 3-2 after the first inning and outscored the Bullets 10-1 in the next five innings.

The Bulllets scored two runs in the top of the first. Rylan Hesser hit Jace Jaacks home with a single and then Mack Nelson scored on a ground out from Wesden Van Ede to make it 2-0.

The Arrows scored three runs in the bottom of the inning. They hit a two-run triple and then a run came home on a wild pitch to make it 3-2.

Watertown scored a run on a single in the bottom of the third to double the lead. Then runs from a ground out and an error in the fourth made it 6-2.

Another run from a single in fifth made it 7-2. Brookings scored its final run of the game on an error in the top of the sixth as Camden Reicks came home to make it 7-3.

Watertown scored six runs in the bottom of the sixth to end the game. Two two-run singles made it 11-9 and then a run from an error pushed the lead to 12-3. Then one more RBI single ended the game due to the 10-run rule.

Brookings had six hits in the loss. Hesser was 1-for-3 with an RBI and Aiden Adelman and Jaacks were also 1-for-3. Reicks was 2-for-3 and Nelson was 1-for-2. Van Ede had an RBI without a hit.

Van Ede pitched four innings and gave up six runs, four earned, on five hits with two strikeouts and three walks. Hesser pitched the final inning and two thirds and gave up seven earned runs on five hits with no strikeouts and four walks.

Game 2: Watertown 9, Brookings 7

They only played four innings in game two due to time. Watertown scored three runs in the final inning and a half to earn the win.

Brookings scored a run in the top of the first as Jaacks came home on a wild pitch.

Watertown answered with five runs in the bottom of the inning. An RBI single and two-run single made it 3-1 and another RBI single pushed the lead to 4-1. Then a run came home on a wild pitch to make it 5-1 heading into the second.

The Bullets got one run back in the top of the second as Jaacks scored on a wild pitch again. However, the Arrows made it a four-run game again in the bottom of the inning with a run on an error.

Brookings took the lead in the top of the third with five runs. Reicks and Adelman each scored on a wild pitch to make it 6-4. Grant Horn then hit Jaacks and Jonas Murray home with a single to tie the game. Horn scored after Nelson stole second and the Bullets led 7-6 going into the bottom of the third.

Watertown regained the lead in the bottom of the inning. The Arrows scored a run on a ground out and then a run on a wild pitch gave them an 8-7 lead. They then scored another run on the wild pitch in the bottom of the fourth to make it 9-7 and that was the final.

Brookings had four hits. Horn was 1-for-2 with two RBIs and Reicks was 1-for-3 with an RBI. Van Ede was 1-for-2 and Adelman was 1-for-3. Murray had an RBI without a hit.
