Bombers White splits four games in Brookings

BROOKINGS The Brookings Bombers White 13/14U team went 2-2 at the Brookings Auto Mall Classic over the weekend.

Brookings beat the Sioux Falls Chargers White 10-4 on Friday. The Bombers then fell to the Keystone Cobras 10-1 on Saturday but bounced back with an 8-6 win over the Sanford Sports Academy. Brookings lost 6-4 to Omaha SWAT in the final game of the tournament on Sunday.

The Bombers are now 13-5 and will host a doubleheader with Dell Rapids on Wednesday at 5 p.m.

Friday

Brookings 10, SF Chargers 4

Brookings scored in all five innings that the Bombers had at bats.

The Bombers led 1-0 after the first inning as Lucas Khler scored on a passed ball. Sioux Falls then hit a two-run single in the top of the second to make it 2-1.

A sacrifice fly from Hudson Vincent scored Landon Mosley in the bottom of the second to tie the game. Brookings then took the lead in the bottom of the third as Beau Thompson hit Jaxson Neuharth home on with a single. Thompson then scored on an error to make it 4-2 heading into the fourth.

The Chargers tied the game in the top of the fourth. The first run of the inning came home on an error and then an RBI single made it 4-4.

The Bombers then scored three runs in the bottom of the fourth. Griffin Streich hit Vincent home with a single and then later scored on an error. Hayden Smidt scored on an error by the catcher to make it 7-4.

Brookings added three runs in the bottom of the fifth. Delton Brownell scored on an error and then Vincent and Mosley each scored on an error to make the final 10-4.

Brookings had 12 hits. Vincent was 1-for-1 with an RBI and Derek Jordan was 1-for-4 with an RBI. Thompson was 1-for-3 with an RBI and Kahler was 2-for-3. Streich was 3-for-3 with an RBI and Brownell and Mosley were each 1-for-3.

Streich pitched a complete game for the Bombers. He gave up four runs, two earned, on six hits with five strikeouts and three walks.

Saturday

Keystone 10, Brookings 1

Brookings had just one hit and that led to the loss in game two of the tournament.

Keystone scored five runs in the first inning. The first two runs came from a double and then runs from a passed ball and wild pitch made it 4-0. A run from a ground out pushed the lead to 5-0.

A run from a sacrifice fly made it 6-0 in the top of the second. Brookings got on the board with a run in the bottom of the second. Brownell hit Thompson home with a single to make it 6-1.

An RBI single and a run from a ground out made it 8-1. Then a run from an error extended the lead to 9-1. A run from a ground out in the top of the fifth made the final 10-1.

Brownell was 1-for-2 with an RBI. Jordan pitched the first inning and gave up five earned runs on two hits with two strikeouts and three walks. Brownell pitched the final four innings and gave up five runs, four earned, on four hits with two strikeouts and one walk.

Brookings 8, Sanford Sports Academy 6

Brookings trailed 6-3 and scored five runs in the top of the fifth to earn the win in the third game of the tournament.

The Bombers jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the top of the second. Mosley hit Thompson and Neuharth home with a single and then scored on a fielder choice from Streich to make it 3-0.

Sanford scored five runs in the bottom of the third to take the lead. They got on the board with an RBI single and then a run from a fielders choice made it 3-2. A two-run single gave Sanford the lead and then an RBI single made it 5-3.

Streich scored on a wild pitch to make it 6-4 in the top of the fifth. Kuddyer Baugher then hit Kahler home with a single and Brownell hit Vincent and Neuharth home with a single to give the Bombers the lead. Brownell came home on a single from Thompson to make it 8-6 and Brookings held off Sanford the rest of the way.

Brownell was 2-for-3 with two RBIs and Mosley was 1-for-2 with two RBIs. Streich and Thompson were each 2-for-3 with an RBI and Baugher was 1-for-2 with an RBI. Kahler was 2-for-3 and Smidt was 2-for-4.

Baugher pitched a complete game. He gave up six runs, five earned, on 12 hits with one strikeout and two walks.

Sunday

Omaha 6, Brookings 4

Omaha scored two runs in the bottom of the fifth and that proved to be the difference.

Omaha led 4-1 after the first inning. Smidt stole home to make it 1-0. Omaha scored two runs on a single and then two runs came home on an error to make it a three-run game.

The Bombers cut the lead to 4-3 in the top of the fourth. Brownell scored on an error and Vincent scored on a different error to make it a one-run game.

Omaha stretched the lead to 6-3 in the bottom of the fifth. The first run came on a fielders choice and then an RBI single grew the lead to three. Vincent then stole home in the sixth but Brookings wasnt able to score any more runs the rest of the way.

The Bombers had seven hits. Smidt was 3-for-4 and Vincent was 2-for-3. Baugher and Brownell were each 1-for-3.

Jordan pitched an inning and gave up four earned runs on one hit with no strikeouts and four walks. Kahler pitched the final four innings and gave up two earned runs on four hits with three strikeouts and four walks.
