RAPID CITY The Brookings Bombers Black 14U team lost two games and tied one in a tournament in Rapid City over the weekend.
The Bombers lost to the Rapid City Post 22 Bullets 10-5 in the first game of the weekend on Friday and then fell 9-1 to the Post 22 Cadets on Saturday. Brookings then tied with Harrisburg 4-4.
Brookings is now 8-13-1 and plays a doubleheader at Renner on Wednesday at 12 p.m.
Friday
Rapid City Post 22 Bullets 10, Brookings 5
Rapid City scored seven runs in the final two innings to earn a comeback win over the Bombers.
The Bullets scored two runs in the top of the second on a double.
Brookings then answered with four runs in the bottom of the third. Cooper Drawdy hit Mason Burzlaff home with a double and then Drawdy scored on a Ty Delbridge double to tie the game. Delbridge would later come home on an error and Jones Huntimer scored on an error as well to make it 4-2.
The Bullets scored a run on a ground out to make it 4-2 in the top of the fourth. They then scored two more runs on an error to make it 5-4 in the sixth.
Brookings would tie the game in the bottom of the sixth. Grayson Wagner hit Huntimer home with a single to make it 5-5.
An RBI single in the top of the seventh gave the Bullets the lead again. A run from a sacrifice fly and a two-run double pushed the lead to 9-5. A run from another error made it 10-5 and then Brookings went down one-two-three in the bottom of the seventh.
The Bombers had seven hits. Wagner was 2-for-2 with an RBI and Drawdy was 2-for-4 with an RBI. Delbridge was 1-for-4 with an RBI and Ty Johnson was 1-for-3. Dario McSweeney was 1-for-4.
Burzlaff pitched the first three innings. He gave up two runs, one earned, on four hits with two strikeouts and one walk. Wagner pitched an inning and gave up one earned run on two hits with one strikeout and two walks. Hayden Jones pitched the final three innings and gave up seven runs, four earned, on three hits with four strikeouts and five walks.
Saturday
Rapid City Post 22 Cadets 9, Brookings 1
Brookings led 1-0 after the first inning and then Rapid City outscored them 9-0 the rest of the way.
Delbridge hit McSweeney home with a single to make it 1-0 in the bottom of the first.
The Cadets then took the lead in the top of the second. The first run of the inning was scored on a passed ball and then an RBI single made it 2-1.
Rapid City then scored five runs in the top of the third. The Cadets scored runs on an error and a wild pitch and then a sacrifice fly made it 5-1. Two more runs came home on an error to make it 7-1.
Runs from an RBI double and an RBI single in the sixth made the final 9-1.
The Bombers had four hits. Delbridge was 1-for-2 with an RBI and Drawdy was 2-for-3. Johnson was 1-for-3.
McSweeney pitched the first inning and a third and gave up seven runs, four earned, on five hits with one strikeout and seven walks. Brady Nutter pitched the final three and two thirds innings and gave up two unearned runs on two hits with one strikeout and two walks.
Sunday
Brookings 4, Harrisburg 4
The game ended in a tie due time.
Each team scored a run in the first. Harrisburgs run came on an RBI single. McSweeney then scored on a wild pitch to make it 1-1.
Brookings took the lead in the bottom of the second as Wagner came home on a wild pitch. Harrisburg then scored three runs in the top of the fourth. The Tigers scored a run on a single to make it 2-2. Then two runs came home on a double to make it 4-2.
The Bombers tied the game in the bottom of the fifth. Wagner hit a single to right field and Johnson and Huntimer came home.
Brookings had five hits. Wagner was 2-for-3 with two RBIs and Burzlaff was 2-for-2. Jones was 1-for-3.
Delbridge pitched all five innings for the Bombers. He gave up four runs, three earned, on eight hits with six strikeouts and four walks.
