Bandits lose three games to Rapid City teams in Brookings

BROOKINGS The Brookings Bandits lost three games to Rapid City teams on Friday.

The Bandits fell to the Rapid City Post 320 Stars 13-1 at Erv Huether Field on Friday morning and then were swept in a doubleheader against the Rapid City Post 22 Hardhats on Friday night at Bob Shelden Field. The Hardhats won game one 3-0 and then took game two 13-2 in five innings.

Brookings dropped to 11-13 on the season. The Bandits will host Volga on Tuesday night at 6 p.m.

The Stars scored six runs in the first two innings and didnt look back.

Rapid Citys first two runs of the game came on errors in the first inning. The Stars then hit a two-run single in the second to make it 4-0. Two batters were then hit by pitches with the bases loaded to push the lead to 6-0.

An RBI single in the top of the fourth made it 7-0. Brookings got on the board in the bottom of the inning as Jon Kahler hit Tane Friedrich home with a sacrifice fly to make it 7-1.

The Stars hit an RBI double in the top of the sixth and then scored five runs top of the seventh. Another RBI double made it 9-1 and then a two-run double stretched the lead to 11-1. Another RBI double and a sacrifice fly made the final 13-1.

Brookings had three hits in the loss. Winston Plummer and Jase Bauer were each 1-for-2 and Maxten Jensen was 1-for-3. Kahler had an RBI without a hit.

Talon Hyde started the game for the Bandits and pitched four innings. He gave up seven runs, two earned, on five hits with two strikeouts and three walks. Ryan Lockrem pitched the final three innings and gave up six earned runs on eight hits with two strikeouts and two walks.

Game One

Rapid City Post 22 3, Brookings 0

Each team had two hits and four walks but the Hardhats made the most of the times they had base runners on in game one.

Rapid City broke a 0-0 tie with two runs in the top of the fifth. The first came on a fielders choice and then a run from an error made it 2-0. The Hardhats then hit an RBI single in the top of the seventh to make it 3-0. Brookings had their only two hits in the game in the bottom of the seventh with one out but the next two batters went down in order and the game ended.

Tyson Antonen was 1-for-1 and Cooper Schneider was 1-for-3.

Antonen pitched the first six and two thirds innings and gave up three runs, one earned, on one hit with no strikeouts and four walks. Lockrem got the final out.

Game Two

Rapid City Post 22 13, Brookings 2 (5 inn.)

It was 0-0 after one inning but then the Hardhats were in control the rest of the way.

Rapid City scored two runs in the top of the second. The first run came on a wild pitch and then a sacrifice fly made it 2-0. Brookings got one run back in the bottom of the second when Friedrich scored on a passed ball.

The Hardhats then scored two more in the top of the third. They hit an RBI single and then a run on a sacrifice bunt made it 4-1. Antonen hit Tre Christopherson home with a single in the bottom of the inning to make it a two-run game.

Rapid City pulled away in the fourth as they scored eight runs. The first two runs came from an RBI single and RBI double. Another RBI single and RBI double stretched the lead to 8-2. Then a run on a passed ball and an RBI single made it 10-2.

The Hardhats scored three more runs in the top of the fifth and that ended the game. They hit an RBI double and two RBI singles to make it 13-2. Brookings needed to cut the lead under 10 in the bottom of the inning but did not score and that ended the game due to the 10-run rule.

Brookings had four hits. Antonen was 1-for-3 with an RBI and Kahler was 1-for-1. Christopherson and Hyde were each 1-for-2.

Kysin Reuer pitched the first three and two thirds innings and gave up 10 earned runs on eight hits with two strikeouts and five walks. Jay Harris pitched the final inning and a third and gave up three earned runs on five hits with two walks and no strikeouts.
