Bombers Red swept in doubleheader against Tea

TEA The Brookings Bombers Red 13U team was swept in a doubleheader against Tea on Tuesday night.

The Bombers lost game one 10-2 and then fell 13-4 in game two. Brookings is now 3-12 and plays a doubleheader in Brookings against Mitchell on June 24.

Game 1: Tea 10, Brookings 2

The Bombers had just three hits and were unable to get the offense going in game one.

Tea led 2-0 after the first two innings. The Titans scored runs on an error and a steal of home in the second to make it 2-0.

Brookings cut the lead in half in the top of the fourth as Mason Hegerfeld scored on an error.

Tea then extended the lead to 10-1 in the bottom of the fourth. The Titans scored a run on an error and then an RBI single made it 4-1. A run from a ground out and another RBI single pushed the lead to 6-1. Two runs then came home on an error and an RBI double made it 9-1. The final run of the inning came home on a wild pitch.

Cullen Torgrude scored on an error by the catcher in the top of the fifth and that made the final 10-2.

Elias Wagner and Weston Diers were each 1-for-3. Bennett Porter was 1-for-2.

Game 2: Tea 13, Brookings 4

The Titans scored in every inning in game two and cruised to another win.

Brookings scored a run in the top of the first as Owen Rounds hit Wagner home with a single. Tea answered with seven runs in the bottom of the inning. An RBI double tied the game and then a two-run double made it 3-1. A run from an error and then a two-run double pushed the lead to 6-1 and then a run on a passed ball made it 7-1.

Tea would score two more runs in the bottom of the second. The first came from a single and then a run from an error made it 9-1.

The Bombers cut the lead to 9-4 in the top of the third. John Romsa was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded. Then Diers hit Torgrude and Wagner home with a double to make it a five-run game.

Two runs came home on an error in the bottom of the inning to extend the lead to 11-4. Another two runs scored on an error in the fourth to make the final 13-4.

Brookings had two hits in the loss. Diers was 1-for-2 with two RBIs and Rounds was 1-for-2 with an RBI. Romsa had an RBI without a hit.
