BROOKINGS COUNTY Two sisters from Bruce driving separate vehicles collided with each other on Thursday afternoon on a rural road northwest of Volga that left one of them injured.
Jorja Somero, 18, was taken by private vehicle to Brookings Health System for an arm injury following the collision on 206th Street near 461st Avenue at 2:38 p.m., per information from a Monday news release from the Brookings County Sheriffs Office. Her sister, Hannah Somero, 17, was not injured.
Assistant Sheriff David Biteler wrote that Jorja Somero was travelling east on 206th Street and, when cresting the hill, noticed another vehicle was approaching. The vehicles were unable to avoid each other and collided. Jorja Someros vehicle, 2017 Ford Fusion, came to rest in the roadway while the second vehicle, a 2014 Ford F150 driven by Hannah Somero, came to rest in the north ditch.
Both vehicles sustained disabling damage and were towed by Aurora Auto Body. Total damage incurred to both vehicles was estimated at approximately $28,837.
In addition to the sheriffs office, other responding agencies were the Volga Fire Department and Brookings Ambulance.
