This weekend marks another major milestone in the short but impressive history of the SoDak Spurs Soccer Club as two of our teams, the 2011 Boys and 2008 Girls, travel to St. Louis, Missouri, to represent the state of South Dakota at the United States Youth Soccer Association Midwest Regionals event.
Since rising out of the doom and gloom of COVID, the SoDak Spurs Soccer Club has quickly gained a reputation for producing top-level teams and players, not only in South Dakota and the Midwest, but also on a national level as our teams and players continue to achieve their individual and collective goals.
Since the rebranding of the soccer club, we have grown in size and stature and are now highly regarded throughout our soccer community as an organized and serious club, said SoDak Spurs Director of Coaching Paul OBrien. The soccer club is really grabbing peoples attention for a variety of reasons, from the way we look on the field, to the style of soccer we play, to the numerous successes our teams have achieved at events in and out of state.
Also, the fact that we can provide an environment for players who are serious about their game, as they can continuously train 10 to 11 months a year, three to four times a week is paramount. Its really nothing new; we are not reinventing the wheel or creating something new. Its pretty simple, just like the game should be. The more you practice and play a sport, or anything for that matter, the better youll become.
The clubs growth and success has been evident over the last two to three years as players who have been part of the SoDak Spurs program have thrived at the high school and collegiate levels, along with the Olympic Development Program level.
To look back at where we were three to four years ago to where we are now is night and day, OBrien said. This year in particular has been unreal. To think we would have had a College All-American player (Maddix Archer), 11 to 12 players selected to Midwest ODP Camps, 2011 boys player Treysen Lounsbury selected to the ODP National Team, as well as two of our teams representing South Dakota at a huge event like the USYSA Midwest Regionals all in the same year is crazy.
The buzz is unreal! Good luck to both teams this weekend at the Midwest Regional Event and hopefully their season continues, and they both advance to the USYSA Nationals in July.
