Six Brookings track athletes heading to nationals

After setting personal records and a new state record time at the South Dakota Class AA State Track & Field Meet, six athletes from the Brookings boys track and field team have qualified for the prestigious New Balance Outdoor National Track Meet next week in Philadelphia.
These young men have earned the opportunity to compete against the top high school athletes in the nation a monumental accomplishment for both the team and the community.
Guided by their coaches, Jason Sebern and Addison DeHaven, these athletes have trained tirelessly all season long. Their determination, teamwork, and sportsmanship have paid off.
Sebern said, I told this team, more than once, they were a special group of athletes. Their willingness to train at a high level is unmatched in my coaching career. Sebern also praises DeHavens passion for coaching, saying, Addison brings an energy and competitiveness that inspires our entire team.
The qualifiers will represent Brookings in four events:
1600 meter Medley Relay
The relay of Charlie Bisgard, Cole Hockett, Ernest Ting, and Jonathan Kahler qualified with a time of 3:32.04.
3200 Meter Relay (4x800m)
The relay of Jonathan Kahler, Ernest Ting, Shane Harming, and Trevin Lounsbury qualified with a time of 7:48.27.
1600 Meter Run
Trevin Lounsbury qualified with a time of 4:15.46.
800 Meter Run
Jonathan Kahler qualified with a time of 1:53.68.
DeHaven also reflected by saying, I have been very impressed with the teams competitiveness and work ethic all year. Its great they have a chance to compete at the national stage.
While the honor is thrilling, traveling to Philadelphia comes with expenses. The team is currently seeking donations and community support to help cover travel, lodging and meet registration fees.
Anyone who would like to help by donating, whether its a local business or a few dollars from a neighbor, it is greatly appreciated as every bit helps these boys live out this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.
Those interested in contributing can drop off donations at two locations: The Brookings High School Office (to Jeff Dvorak) at 530 Elm Ave., or at Life Force Nutrition at 1734 Sixth St. Donations can also be made on venmo to the account of @LFPN2020.
Lets rally behind these talented athletes as they head to the national stage and show what Brookings is made of. Go Bobcats!
