I have been reading about a proposed new reality show pitched to the Department of Homeland Security Secretary (and honorary doctor) Kristi Noem wherein immigrants can compete in a series of tasks to be the one who wins U.S. citizenship. Interesting idea, but I have a timely and more appealing idea for a series that can go on for multiple seasons.
Seeing her penchant for telling South Dakota educators how they would be allowed to teach social studies and U.S. history, her obsession with costumes, and her recent testimonial debacle in front of the Senate Appropriations Committee, I submit that an enterprising media production company put together a series where Secretary Noem costumes up for each episode as one of the forefathers or a government official known for their uniform (officer in the armed services, forest ranger, research scientist, etc.) and reads the U.S. Constitution.
Wait, wait a minute, and read on. This serves a number of purposes. One, and primarily, it allows her, those enamored with her, and hopefully the president, to find out what the U.S. Constitution actually says.
Two, the potential number of costumes (and the headwear) is infinite to get through the Constitution, the Bill of Rights and rest of the amendments, and even through Farrands Papers and the Federalist Papers.
And finally, three, it allows her to show off her political science chops she earned with her degree from South Dakota State University and more recently her honorary degree from Dakota State University with more of that steamy Utah Mormon Mom heat in front of yet another camera.
And seeing what strict Constitutional literalists the MAGA group claims to be, none of us would have to worry about any nasty interpretations of what she reads to us. I think it could be the perfect Fox News After Dark complement to Gutfeld and The Five.
Do I think a series like this is viable, even to Secretary Noems biggest fans? No, not really, but you never know.
I do believe even if a couple of episodes were produced on a trial basis, that at least it would get her to The Suspension Clause of Article I, Section 9, Clause 2 which explains habeas corpus (show me the body). Which is really what we want, isnt it?
I like to believe that when a government official or officer takes the oath to the U.S. Constitution that he or she actually knows the document and what it says not what you hope it says or what you think it might say or what youve been told it says, so you can get away with the things you do or say. Well see if it matters to her, them, or us.
