BROOKINGS Two Brookings softball players were named to the All-Eastern South Dakota Conference Team and one of them was named to the Class AA All-State Team.
Seniors Kymber Buys and Tess Burns were both named to the All-ESD Team and Buys was named to the All-State Team.
Buys played center field for the Bobcats this season. She had a batting average of .529 with 10 home runs, nine doubles and 31 runs batted in. Buys also scored 22 runs this season. In the field, Buys had 39 putouts and had just two errors.
Burns was a pitcher for the Bobcats this season but also was one of the better hitters on the team. In the circle she pitched 71 and a third innings this season. She started 16 games for the Cats and had a record of 4-1. She gave up 97 hits and 83 runs and had an earned run average of 4.90. Burns had 70 strikeouts and 34 walks and opposing batters had an average of .296.
Burns had a battering average of .312 and an on base percentage of .421. She had two home runs, two doubles and a triple. Burns had eight runs batted in and scored eight runs.
Buys and Burns helped lead the Bobcats to an 11-8 record and the No. 7 seed in the Class AA SoDak 16. Unfortunately Brookings fell to No. 10 seeded OGorman in the SoDak 16.
Both Buys and Burns will be playing softball for South Dakota State next spring.
