Bombers White falls in close one in Dell Rapids

DELL RAPIDS The Dell Rapids 14U team scored three runs in the sixth inning and then held off the Brookings Bombers White 13/14U team in the seventh to earn a 7-6 win on Tuesday night.

Brookings led 2-0 after scoring a run in each of the first two innings. Hayden Smidt hit a lead-off double and then stole third. He then scored on a dropped third strike to make it 1-0. Delton Brownell then drew a one-out walk in the second and advanced to second on a wild pitch and third on an error. He then scored on a passed ball to make it 2-0.

Dell Rapids tied the game in the bottom of the fourth. The opening batter of the inning reached on an error and then a single and a walk loaded the bases up. Then a run from a single and a run from an error made it 2-2.

The Bombers responded with two runs in the top of the fifth. Gavin Streich walked to open the inning and then stole second. He made his way to third on a wild pitch and then scored on an error to make it 3-2. Smidt walked as well and then Beau Thompson hit him home to push the lead to 4-2.

Dell Rapids evened things up again in the bottom of the inning. A lead-off single and then a two-out single put two runners on. Each runner then came home on a single to make it 4-4 heading into the sixth.

Brookings failed to score in the top of the sixth and then Dell Rapids led off with a double in the bottom of the inning. That runner scored on a single to give Dell Rapids the lead. Then a two-run single later in the inning made it 7-4 heading into the final half inning.

The Bullets were able to score two runs in the top of the seventh. Smidt walked to begin the inning and then advanced all the way to third on two wild pitches. He then scored on a double from Derek Jordan. Jaxson Neuharth ran for Jordan and made it to third on a wild pitch. He then scored on a Hudson Vincent sacrifice fly to make it 7-6 but Brownell struck out to end the game.

The Bombers had five hits in the loss. Jordan was 1-for-4 with two RBIs and Thompson was 1-for-4 with an RBI. Smidt was 2-for-2 and Kuddyer Baugher was 1-for-1.

Baugher also pitched a complete game. He gave up six runs, five earned, on nine hits with five strikeouts and three walks.

It was the first loss of the season for the Bombers as theyre now 5-1. Brookings plays in a tournament in Pierre this weekend.
